SUBPOP

Another Sub Pop compilaton? Yes, but this one has a theme: love! As an antidote to those soft-edged, K-Tel-type collections, this gathers together a few I'm-happy-and-in-love songs, some what-the-hell-is-love-anyway? tunes and the odd suicidal he/she's left me compositions. Unrest skip around with first date excitement, the Smashing Pumpkins' sweet feelings get the beauty treatment on 'La Dolly Vita', while Seaweed get caught in the 100mph grunge-rush of 'Clean Slate'. Melancholia takes a back seat for the Rev Horton Heat's rockabilly paean to pain and possessions, 'Where In The Hell Did You Go With My Toothbrush?'. Steven Jesse Bernstein's post-modern Burroughsesque poem, 'This Clouded Heart', has the most to say about this latest twist to a once-jaded concept. Listen, wonder and weep.
