Guitar World - March 1993
A FEW GOOD MEN

" I would describe our music as rock guitar power and rock guitar experimentation with Beatles-esque song sensibility. I try to combine all the things I like about all the bands I like." All the bands Billy likes takes in a pretty broad turf, from Hendrix to Black Sabbath to My Bloody Valentine, which helped to make Smashing Pumpkins' Gish (Caroline) one of 1991's most stunning guitar debuts. Corgan's songs are like remote Alpine highways - meandering, yet meticulously well-planned. They guide the listener through endless guitar landscapes; shimmering sheets of tremolo, aquatic wang-bar warbles, frenetically fuzzed-out leads that walk a fine line between chaos and control... It's really scary to think what Corgan means when he says that Pumpkin' follow-up will be "much more of a guitar album"
