James Iha
New Zealand Herald

Because James Iha's own rock cool is unquestionable as guitarist in the Smashing Pumpkins, it's perhaps no surprise that for his - and his band's - first solo outing, he's happy to wimp out in style.

Unfortunately, with Iha's mix of soft-rock, power-pop and folky numbers all seemingly set under a sun-baked Californian sky, the sense of mellow is more memorable than its songs.

As high-point tracks like Country Girl and No One's Gonna Hurt You, Iha's got a sweet voice and a cuddly lyrical approach, and the warm backing of some rootsy mates. But most of this swerves between the flaky and the forgettable.
