An easygoing surprise

Be prepared for an easygoing surprise when James Iha, daily supersonic guitar daemon in the Smashing Pumpkins, solo debuts with the album "Let It Come Down".

The Smashing Pumpkins has always taken some acustic derailment from their relatively dark and angry metal blow outs, but who had expected that James Iha should own such a tender and melodic nerve as a song writer.

Here is 11 down toned, simple, beautiful songs of classic pop recording, and it suits Iha's somewhat slender, brittle and light voice.

The wrapping is almost totally acustic. There is not a single angry blow out or any intricate guitar solos.

Iha's songs, which by the way are written in between all the struggles with "the child of pain", Billy Corgan, don't scream for attention at all.

To listen to "Let It Come Down" is almost like to walk in your own thoughts along a dusty country road in a soft, friendly landscape during the spring. James Iha has short said written 11 songs that are shy and ingratiating. Songs with soul and personality which crawls under your skin if you give them some time.

Rating: 5 (out of 6)!
