If you are a small band trying to get noticed, you want to get as much of your music to the public as fast as you can. One way to do this is by signing on to do a song for a compilation; maybe a soundtrack release, maybe a themed release, but a release nonetheless. The Smashing Pumpkins have been doing from their infancy (Light Into Dark) until now (A Very Special Christmas 3) with no end in sight.
